The climate of Beijing

What is the capital of China? Beijing, also known as Beijing, is one of the most famous cities in China. The city is located in Hebei Province and is one of the cities that functions as an independent province and is directly governed by the government itself. The city is a stronghold of ancient history and everywhere you walk you will come across buildings that have played an important role somewhere in Chinese history. The Forbidden City, where the emperors held their court for centuries, the huge Tiananmen Square, where students protested, and more recently the Olympic stadium. The many parks also remind us of the glory days of yesteryear. The Behai Park used to be an imperial garden and is now open to everyone to enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants. Beijing has a warm continental climate. Due to the influence of the East Asian monsoon, the summers are very long, hot and humid. In the winter months the wind comes from the north and the temperatures blow over from Siberia. This makes for icy cold days. Due to the severe drought in the winter, dust storms can arise, which does not exactly benefit the air quality in the city. Although the authorities have done their utmost to improve the quality of the air (because of the Olympics), it is still not very pleasant to walk around Beijing on hot days. See abbreviations for Beijing.
