The climate of Dhaka

What is the capital of Bangladesh? With over 10 million inhabitants, Dhaka is the largest city and capital of Bangladesh. Dhaka is located fairly centrally in Bangladesh, on a tributary of the Dhaleswari River. The city dates back to the tenth century AD, but has only been the capital of Bangladesh since 1971. Historic sites of Dhaka include Dhakeshwari Temple, Aurangabad Fort and Bara Katra Palace. Dhaka has a tropical monsoon climate (Am climate), with dry, warm winters and hot, clammy and very wet summers. From June to mid-September there is a monsoon period, in which a total of about fifteen hundred millimeters of rain falls. This is about three quarters of the total average annual sum of 2121 millimeters. It is always warm in Dhaka, with January being the coolest with an average maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. After that, the mercury quickly rises to 36 degrees in April, the hottest month. From May, the average temperature drops by about one degree each month as a result of the heavy rainfall and the limited number of hours of sunshine.
