The climate of Jakarta

What is the capital of Indonesia? Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and is located in the northwest of the island of Java. With officially just under ten million inhabitants (but more than twenty million in the metropolis as a whole), Jakarta is the largest metropolis in Southeast Asia. In total, about ten percent of Indonesians live in or around this city. Jakarta has had several names, the most recent of which is Jakarta, until it was changed to Jakarta in 1972.

For Dutch tourists, Jakarta is mainly the start and/or end point of a tour through Indonesia. The country has so much more to offer than a busy city full of traffic jams that most only stay in Jakarta for one or two nights. If you are not intimidated by a big city, you can visit some of Jakarta’s sights. Worthwhile are the historic city center, the historic harbor Sunda Kalapa and the various museums, such as the National Museum. See abbreviations for Jakarta.

A visit to Jakarta means that you will find yourself in a tropical monsoon climate (type Am), with tropical daytime temperatures of around or just above thirty degrees all year round. In the period October to mid-March it is monsoon; During this rainy season, about two to three hundred millimeters of precipitation can fall per month. In total, there is an annual rainfall of 1800 to 1900 millimeters in Jakarta.
