Climate and Weather in Kabul, Afghanistan

The climate of Kabul

What is the Capital of Afghanistan? Kabul (also spelled Kabul) is the capital of Afghanistan and with an estimated population of nearly three million the largest city in the country. Kabul has a turbulent history, with the city regularly being conquered, recaptured and partly destroyed. In the United States’ fight against terrorism, Kabul was strategically an important city to capture from the then-ruling Taliban. Kabul has a cold steppe climate (type Bsk according to the Köppen system) with warm summers, with hot days occurring regularly. The low relative humidity makes the heat in summer somewhat bearable. With average maximum temperatures of 30 to 33 degrees in the summer, Kabul is still a fairly cool destination within Afghanistan. In winter it is quite cool in Kabul, with daytime temperatures averaging just above freezing. At night it can freeze moderately to severe, especially in the months of December, January and February. Snowfall is also possible during this period. However, a long white winter cover is not very common. See abbreviations for Kabul.
