The climate of Moscow

What is the capital of Russia? Moscow (Москва) is the capital of Russia and is located in the European part of the country. With more than 10 million inhabitants living in a city of more than a thousand square kilometers, it is the largest and most important city in the country. The former center of communism has become one of the most expensive cities in the world after the country transitioned to the capitalist system. The fear that the contradictions in Moscow between rich and poor would become great has become more than true. A large part of the Muscovites live at or below the poverty line, living in the many ugly apartment buildings that were built in the city during the time of the Iron Curtain. Moscow has a moderate continental climate, with cool winters and warm summers. During the months of December to February, Red Square and the other streets of Moscow are often covered with white snow. At temperatures between minus five and minus fifteen degrees Celsius (average) it is cool. The temperature regularly drops a lot lower in winter. During these periods of frost, during which it also freezes considerably during the day, a fairly large number of homeless people die every year. Once spring arrives (in April), the thermometer rises rapidly to pleasant temperatures. From May it is regularly summer during the day and due to the lack of sea water, the natural elements have free rein to transform Moscow into a scorching hot city in the summer, with temperatures that can reach forty degrees.
