Climate and Weather in Paramaribo, Suriname

The climate of Paramaribo

What is the capital of Suriname? Paramaribo is the capital of Suriname and is located in the north of the country, on the west side of the Suriname River. Paramaribo has a tropical rainforest climate (type Af according to the Köppen-Geiger climate system ), with warm days all year round. During the day, the temperature quickly rises to an average of 30 to 32 degrees, after which it cools down to 22 to 24 degrees at night.

Days without sun almost never occur, even on days when there is a lot of rain, the sun always shines for a few hours. Paramaribo is the starting point of his or her journey through the country for almost every tourist who enters the country. Just acclimatize in the luxurious Torarica hotel or the even more luxurious Royal Torarica, visit Fort Zeelandia or enjoy a delicious local Parbo beer before you leave civilization and head into the jungle.

If you stay in Paramaribo, you should always take into account a heavy rain shower, which mainly falls in the afternoons. The probability and intensity of the showers depend on the season. Most rain falls in the period December/January (the short rainy season) and in the period April to August (the big rainy season). During these periods, two hundred to five hundred millimeters of rain can fall within one month. The rain, in combination with the high temperatures, creates a high relative humidity, which means that it almost always feels clammy and humid in Paramaribo. Especially if you are used to a cooler climate, you will quickly start to sweat at the slightest activity. Just like in all warmer countries, it is therefore important to drink enough (water).
