The climate of Riga

Some media believe that there is a moderate maritime climate, but that is not true. Riga has a temperate continental climate, which is indicated by the letter code Dfb within the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The defining criterion by which the climate of Riga is designated as a humid continental climate and not a maritime climate is the fact that the average daily temperature of the coldest month of the year is below −3 °C. This happens in both January (−5.1 °C) and February (−4.7 °C).
