Climate and Weather in Rome, Italy
The climate of Rome
What is the capital of Italy? Rome is the capital of Italy and of the former Roman Empire. The Vatican City, the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, is located in Rome. The city has so many monuments and history that it is too much to mention. Due to its important position in the Roman Empire, Christianity and the Renaissance, Rome has yielded a wealth of works of art and buildings. If you want to see everything in this city, you will have to take plenty of time for this. Almost every corner or square has a wealth of historic buildings. Famous are St. Peter’s with its Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Castel Sant’Angelo and the Spanish Steps.
The best time to visit Rome is in the spring or fall. In the summer it can be quite annoying due to the high temperatures and smog, especially for people with respiratory problems. In spring and autumn, the temperature is still fine for a city trip due to the Mediterranean climate, but also in winter really cold days are a rarity. The summer months of July and August are warm in Rome. The city retains the heat for quite a long time. It therefore takes quite a long time before it cools down a bit in the evening. Several times a summer, the thermometers shoot well over thirty degrees. Sometimes the temperature rises towards forty degrees during the afternoon. Try to avoid the sun on those days and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. See abbreviations for Rome.
