The climate of Sarajevo

What is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina? Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This centrally located city has a temperate maritime climate (type Cfb according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification), with fairly warm summers, cool winters and precipitation throughout the year. In the winter months, a large part of this precipitation falls in the form of snow. Those who want to do winter sports, however, will have to look outside Sarajevo. The town itself is located in a valley about five hundred meters above sea level. The surrounding mountains are much higher, such as the Bjelašnica, with a height of 2067 meters, the Igman, with 1502 meters as the highest point, and the Jahorina, which measures 1913 meters.

Due to their location between hills and mountains, the Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic Sea often have less influence on Sarajevo because depressions cannot move inland. The temperature of the sea water also has less influence on the climate than directly along the coast. The summer months can therefore be a lot hotter than the statistics suggest.
