The climate of Taipei

What is the capital of Taiwan? Taipei is the capital of Taiwan. Taipei is located in the north of the island, about ten kilometers from the coast. Although Taipei is connected to the sea via the Tamsui River, most of the freight and passenger traffic is by sea via the nearby port city of Keelung. Over the years, Taipei has grown into a metropolis that is home to some three million people. For tourists taking a vacation in Taiwan, Taipei is often the place where they start and end their vacation. In addition to a visit to Taipei, there is often also a tour through the country. The literal and figurative highlight of the city is the Taipei 101. This 508 meter high skyscraper was the tallest building in the world until the construction of Burj Khalifa in Dubai. See abbreviations for Taipei.

Taipei has a humid subtropical climate. Within the Köppen climate system, the climate of Taipei is referred to as a Cwa climate or the china climate. The wet summers are characteristic of this climate type. In combination with the fairly high temperatures, it is clammy and stuffy in Taipei during the summer months. With official temperatures of 30 to 36 degrees in the afternoon and an average relative humidity of 70 to 80 percent, the perceived temperature in Taipei rises to above 40 degrees.

On an annual basis, Taipei receives an average of about 2500 millimeters of precipitation. Because frost is a rarity in the city, precipitation almost always falls in the form of rain. Snow only occurs in the higher mountains around the city. The least rain falls in winter. The months of November, December and January are the driest of the year. The summer period is by far the wettest. The months of June, August and September are particularly wet.
