The climate of Yamoussoukro

What is the capital of Ivory Coast? Yamoussoukro is the capital of the Ivory Coast, an African country located on the Gulf of Guinea. The planned city is only a few decades old and took over the role of capital from the coastal city of Abidjan in 1983. Yamoussoukro is the birthplace of the then president, who wanted to build a new impressive center of the country here. Yamoussoukro is home to the largest church in the world: the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix. This extremely expensive church (construction cost 0.25 billion euros) is a copy of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Yamoussoukro has a tropical savanna climate, with a fairly constant temperature. The warmest is in the months of February and March, after which the upcoming wet season causes a slight drop in the average maximum temperature. The wet season lasts until October. Compared to surrounding capitals, the rainy season is much less intense here. In the wettest month of June, there is an average of 163 millimeters of rain and only half of the days are considered rainy days. See abbreviations for Yamoussoukro.
