The climate of Yaren

What is the capital of Nauru? Yaren is a village in the south of the island state of Nauru, the third smallest country in the world. It is not seen as the capital of the country, but in fact the place functions that way. The government offices of Nauru and the international airport can be found in this district. Yet the place is only one and a half square kilometers in size. They even have their own dialect in Yaren, which is derived from Nauru. Unfortunately, there are no hotels in the district. For this you have to go to the adjacent district of Meneng, where Nauru’s only hotel is located. Yaren has an underground lake, the Moqua Well; the lake is located in a cave of the same name, the Moqua Cave. Yaren has a tropical climate with two seasons. Between November and February, the climate is influenced by the monsoon, which can cause heavy rainfall. The full rainy season lasts from December to April. This is followed by a drier season from May to November, but also in these months there is between 100 and 150 mm of precipitation per month. Temperatures in the ‘capital’ of Nauru are fairly constant. There is little difference in temperature between the seasons. The average maximum temperature throughout the year is 30-31 degrees.
