Golden Sands, Bulgaria Weather and Climate
Geographical location
16 kilometers northeast of the Bulgarian city of Varna is the popular gold beach on the Black Sea, which is known in the local language as Slatni pjasazi (Golden Sands). The beach is 3.5 kilometers long and sometimes up to 100 meters wide.
The place of the same name has become known as a tourist stronghold. Young people in particular are drawn to the golden sands every year due to good night clubs and inexpensive party opportunities. Well-known stars and musicians who otherwise perform on Mallorca or Ibiza have become regular guests in Bulgaria. The largest party mile in Bulgaria has been located on Golden Sands since 2004.
But the hotels also offer an excellent price-performance ratio. Slatni pjasazi is north of the popular Sunny Beach. The neighboring city of Varna has an airport to which many airlines fly. The resort of Albena is also only a few kilometers away.
Climate on the golden sands
In summer climatic parallels to the Mediterranean can be seen. With pleasant temperatures of up to 27 ° C, there is very little rainfall on the Golden Sands. The water temperature rises up to 23 degrees during this time. Even at night it stays pleasantly warm with up to 17 degrees. Summer temperatures of up to 22 ° C can already be found on the Golden Sands in May.
With a water temperature of 15 degrees, bathing at this time is only recommended for die-hard people. The highest temperatures occur in the summer months of July and August. Outside the main season – from October to February- On the other hand, the values drop to below 10 degrees, at night it can even come to minus degrees. Precipitation also increases and there may be occasional rainy days.
When to go to the golden sands?
Basically the season starts around mid-May and attracts with particularly cheap offers at this time. The best time to travel to Golden Sands, however, is between June and September, with July and August being the absolute high season. In these summer months the climate is very pleasantly warm and the beach is accordingly lively. Warm summer nights invite you to linger in the city or on the beach promenade.
In the main season there are a lot of events and parties that heat up holidaymakers from all over the world. The drink prices are low and the mood is accordingly lively. Winter and autumn are less suitable for a trip to the Golden Sands, as both the hotels and almost all discos and bars close from September. The temperatures from the beginning of October are also unsuitable for swimming.

The annual average temperature in Varna is 12.1 ° C. For comparison: Munich reaches an average of 8.6 ° C, in Berlin it is 9.6 ° C. The warmest month is July (22 ° C), coldest month of January with mean values of 1.9 ° C. The maximum water temperature in Varna is 23 ° C. Comfortable bathing is possible at these temperatures. The months of June, July, August, September and October have a water temperature of at least 17 ° C. Bathing is then possible to a limited extent. The months of July, August and September have a water temperature of at least 21 ° C and are therefore suitable for a beach holiday.

Highlights and attractions
A real highlight is the Aquapolis water park, especially on hot days the park offers good opportunities to cool off and have a lot of fun. One of the best bars on the Golden Sands is the legendary Mojito Beach Bar. It is ideal for tasty drinks in between or a spontaneous après-sun party. If you want to enjoy one of the colorful parties in a great atmosphere afterwards, the Dauquiri Cocktail Bar is really in good hands.
The most famous clubs on the golden sands are Arrogance and Bonkers. The point of contact for German party holidaymakers is the Roxy Disco, which mainly plays German pop music and house. Admission is free for women, men pay 3 to 4 leva. The Papaya and the hip PR Club are among the more upscale addresses on Golden Sands. Here, too, the mood is exuberant, but the ambience and audience are a bit “finer”.
Golden Sands weather in March, April and May
Average daily temperatures between 9 ° C and 20 ° C can be expected over the next three months. In Varna, it gets warmest in May, while March is noticeably cooler.
