Krabi, Thailand Weather and Climate
General and geography
The province of Krabi is located on Thailand’s southwest coast, the provincial capital Krabi City is around 175 kilometers from Phuket. In addition to the tropical mainland with some wonderful beaches, Krabi also includes popular islands such as Ko Lanta and Ko Phi Phi.
Krabi has its own airport, which is served by Bangkok Airways as well as various international airlines. It is also possible to arrive via Phuket Airport. Many hotels offer affordable transfers, and modern metered taxis can also be found from the airports.
Despite increasing numbers of tourists, Krabi has largely been able to retain its originality. Especially on the popular Ao Nang Beach, however, the boom can be clearly felt and corresponding hustle and bustle can be expected, especially in the high season.
Climate in Krabi (Thailand)
Like all regions in southwest Thailand, Krabi also has a typically tropical climate. There are therefore only slight differences in temperature over the course of the year; classic seasons cannot be distinguished. Rather, the climate in Krabi is significantly influenced by the monsoon winds and rainfall.
The rainy season in Krabi usually starts around the Thai New Year Festival Songkran around mid- April. The amount of rain often increases significantly, especially in May, and initiates the humid green season in the region. This rainy season lasts up to and including November. From December to April the rainfall drops significantly and it is the main tourist season.
When is the best time to visit Krabi?
While Thailand is suitable as a holiday destination all year round, we recommend the months of the dry season between the beginning of December to mid-April as the best time to travel to Krabi. January and February are particularly popular, as from March it becomes increasingly hot and in April it is oppressive and humid in many places.
Nevertheless, the rainy season in Krabi is also a popular travel time, as it often only rains heavily in the late afternoon and at night. It often clears up again during the day. In addition, the hotels and resorts lure in the green season with significant discounts and attractive offers. The sea is churned on some days by the stronger wind, so you should definitely be more careful when swimming.
