History of La Pine, Oregon
La Pine, Oregon is a small city located in Deschutes County in the high desert region of Central Oregon. It was founded in 1877 by settlers looking to take advantage of the area’s rich timber resources. The town was originally called Christmas Valley, but was renamed La Pine in 1910 after a local resident suggested it would be better suited for the area’s rolling hills and pine trees.
The original settlers of La Pine were mostly homesteaders who built log cabins and subsistence farms on the land.
