Lake Garda, Italy Weather and Climate
Geographical location
Lake Garda is the largest Italian lake and is a very well-known holiday destination between the Alps and the Po Valley. Adjacent cities are Desenzano del Garda, Riva del Garda and Salò.
With its considerable size of around 370 km², the lake area extends over three regions, which is why Lake Garda is officially included in Trentino-South Tyrol, Veneto and Lombardy. The largest source of water is the Sarca River.
The area around the lake is also known for its viticulture. South of Desenzano del Garda is the Lugana wine-growing region and the Bardolino wine region to the east. Lake Garda (in the local language Lago di Garda or sometimes also called Bènaco) is dotted with several islands, the most famous of which is Isola del Garda.
You can arrive via Verona by plane or by train. The nearest train station is in Rovereto. Often you also come with your own car, the highways are well developed and allow a problem-free journey.
Climate on Lake Garda
The region around Lake Garda in Italy is characterized by a Mediterranean climate. Although it is categorized as a mountain lake, the Mediterranean influences on the weather are undeniable. The annual average temperature is 15 ° C. A frosty winter is usually not to be found, snowfall and ice are extremely rare. The temperatures usually do not drop below 0 degrees Celsius.
Spring guarantees sunshine and mild temperatures. Already in April you can find up to 15 degrees and nothing stands in the way of the first sunbathing. In summer it gets very warm on Lake Garda. Temperatures of 30 ° C are not uncommon. From May the water temperature rises and nothing stands in the way of jumping into Lake Garda. in the August is even expected with a water temperature of 24 degrees.
From October onwards, bathing in Lake Garda is only recommended for die-hard people, the temperatures now drop very quickly to below 20 degrees. There is little rainfall in the entire region throughout the year. If it rains, it is usually short showers or warm summer thunderstorms on Lake Garda.

Voltino is located in the north-west of Lake Garda. There is the so-called SKYclimber, a great adventure and highlight for beginners and advanced climbers. Another attraction is the Vittoriale degli Italiani, a museum complex in Gardone Riviera. There is a lot to discover here, both architecturally and culturally. Monte Baldo should not be ignored in Malcesine. Here you can enjoy a fantastic view over Lake Garda.
Sports enthusiasts and active vacationers appreciate the place Torbole as a sports stronghold on Lake Garda, especially the surf center Lido Blue at the mouth of the Garca is a popular contact point with well-trained staff.
