Geographical location
The popular coastal city of Marmaris in the Turkish Aegean is located in the south-west of Turkey.
Around 50,000 inhabitants live on an area of 878 square kilometers, but the region is of major importance for tourism. Holiday resorts such as Fethiye and Bodrum are in the vicinity, Marmaris is considered the “pearl” of the Aegean coast and combines fantastic landscapes with an impressive culture.
To the north of the city is the Gulf of Gökova and the Mediterranean to the south. The Greek island of Rhodes can be reached by ferry from Marmaris.
Most holidaymakers land in Dalaman Airport, around 110 kilometers away. Marmaris is around 2000 kilometers from Germany.
Climate in Marmaris
The climate is very Mediterranean according to the location of Marmaris on the Aegean Sea. It is characterized by warm summers and a fairly mild winter. In the cooler season from November to February, however, some rainfalls can occur, with January being the wettest month with up to 231 millimeters of precipitation. With the rising temperatures, however, the rain on the Turkish Aegean decreases very quickly during the year.
In April there is only 61 millimeters of precipitation and the temperatures are already over 20 ° C. From the end of May the 30 degree mark is cracked almost every day, the warmest month in Marmaris is July with an average of 35 degrees daytime temperature. Even in October you will still find temperatures of over 25 ° C in Marmaris, Fethiye and Bodrum, from November it will be noticeably colder.
When to go to Marmaris
The best time to travel to Marmaris and the Turkish Aegean Sea is from June to October. Due to the enormous heat in July, this travel time is not recommended for everyone, but it can be a perfect travel time for absolute sun worshipers. The peripheral months from mid-May to late June and early September to mid-October are particularly pleasant.
The main season on the Aegean is during the European summer holidays in July and August. The water temperature of up to 26 ° C is very pleasant in summer and ideal for an unforgettable beach holiday. In the months of November, December and January, Marmaris is affected by increased rainfall, at night in winter temperatures can even reach 3 to 6 degrees.

The warmest month is July (28 ° C), coldest month of January with mean values of 10 ° C. The maximum water temperature is 26 ° C. Comfortable bathing is possible at these temperatures. The months of June, July, August, September, October and November have a water temperature of at least 21 ° C and are therefore suitable for a beach holiday.

A highlight of the city of Marmaris on the Aegean Sea is the authentic marina with historical fishing boats and nice places to go out. The Dalyan River is a nice destination. Here you can join small boat tours and discover the landscape. Other highlights of the region are the Marmaris Mountains, Dalyan and Icmeler Beach.
