Pattaya, Thailand Weather and Climate
Geographical location
Pattaya is a popular vacation spot in the Chon Buri province of Thailand. The city is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand and is around 130 kilometers from Bangkok. An expressway leads from Pattaya directly to the capital.
About 100,000 people officially live in Pattaya, but the actual number is estimated to be up to four times that, since many emigrants have never officially registered with the government or still remain in Europe.
Right across from the center of the city, Pattaya Beach is around 15 kilometers long, and most of the hotels and clubs are located on the Pattaya Klang section. Jomtien Beach in north Pattaya is a popular holiday region for families too.
Basically, Pattaya is a travel destination that has something to offer at any time of the day or night. Things are quieter on the island of Ko Lan, which is located off the coast and can be reached in a few minutes by boat or ferry.
Pattaya is about 9000 kilometers from Germany as the crow flies.
Climate in Pattaya
The climate in Pattaya is tropical-monsoonal, the temperatures fluctuate only minimally over the course of the year. The average daytime temperature is around 31 ° C. Although there are no classic seasons in Thailand, the Pattaya region distinguishes between three different climatic phases with very different amounts of precipitation.
November to February are hot and dry with little rain, the humidity on the coast around Pattaya is only around 50 percent. March and April are transition months. From May to August, on the other hand, it gets very hot, humid air and regular precipitation make it humid. The third phase is the “real rainy season” in Pattaya with an average humidity of 90 percent and enormous rainfall in September and October.
When to go to Pattaya
Generally it is very hot all year round in Pattaya, even at night it stays very warm with 22 to 26 degrees. From November to February is the main tourist season in the region, especially around Christmas and the beginning of January the hotels are packed. Pattaya and Jomtien Beach are at their peak during the winter holidays, before and after prices are lower.
In general, we recommend the months of November to February as the best time to travel to Pattaya, but March and April are also worth recommending with very little rainfall and pleasant weather. Since most Europeans left by the end of February, the time before Easter is a good alternative. As it gets noticeably hotter again in March and April, we do not recommend the months as the absolutely best travel time in the region.
The rainy season from May to October is very unstable, heavy rains are more frequent and many shops in the tourist centers are now closing. In addition, mosquitoes can increase. Overall, this travel time is extremely cheap in the off-season for good reason. Do not be tempted too much by the often conspicuous bargains, but consider whether you really want to take the weather risk on a long-haul trip.

Highlights and attractions
In addition to the popular Pattaya Beach and Jomtien Beach, the offshore islands Ko Lan and Ko Phai are popular seaside resorts in Pattaya, with their crystal clear water and great coral reefs. Boat trips as well as diving and snorkeling tours are offered as excursions in many places. Recommended sights in Pattaya are the Sanctuary of Truth and the Big Buddha statue on the highest peak of the city.
Activities such as petting tigers in special parks are loved by many tourists and actively promoted locally. However, we ask you to consider the keeping conditions and to agree with your own conscience whether you would like to support the confinement of wild animals for tourist enjoyment. Even if the operators of course vehemently claim that the animals are injured / orphaned and that the company serves their care.
