Geographical location

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily.

Climate in Sardinia

The Mediterranean climate manifests itself in annual average temperatures of around 17 ° C with up to 300 sunny days and mostly pleasantly mild values ​​even in spring and autumn. In the capital Cagliari, temperatures rise to over 20 ° C as early as April, but until mid- May it is still a bit too fresh for long bathing. From June it will be warm in summer, and sometimes quite hot in July and August.

In September the temperatures slowly subside, but the heated Mediterranean remains pleasantly warm. Slowly the rains are getting a little more, in October and November as well and February is the wettest on the island. From November to April, Sardinia falls into a kind of hibernation, many hotels and restaurants close, and supermarkets are reducing their product range.

When to go to Sardinia

The best travel time for Sardinia for round trips, active vacationers (for example hikers and golfers) begins in April, but most hotels and restaurants are still on the back burner. With the rising temperatures in early summer, the picture changes suddenly, and Sardinia offers the best price-performance ratio between mid-May and mid-June.

However, we recommend the months of July, August and September as the best travel time for the island, especially for beach holidaymakers. The temperatures of 27 to 30 degrees allow you to spend relaxing days under the Italian sun and a vacation that suits the taste of sun-hungry connoisseurs. The Mediterranean is up to 24 degrees and it hardly rains at all, over 10 hours of sunshine in July and August ensure perfect summer weather!

The Costa Smeralda on the northeast coast is not only a pool for the rich and beautiful, but also the most popular travel region in Sardinia in general.
