According to wholevehicles, Bolivia is a landlocked country located in the heart of South America. It is bordered by Brazil to the north and east, Paraguay and Argentina to the south, and Chile and Peru to the west. The country covers an area of 1,098,581 square kilometers (424,164 square miles) making it the 28th largest country in the world. Bolivia consists mainly of rugged mountains with an average elevation of 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) above sea level. The highest point in Bolivia is Nevado Sajama at 6,542 meters (21,463 feet). The Cordillera Occidental mountain range runs along its western border with Chile and Peru. This range includes several volcanoes such as Licancabur and Lascar which are active today. Further east are two large plateaus known as the Altiplano and Chaco which make up most of Bolivia’s terrain. The Altiplano is a high plateau that stretches from Peru into northern Argentina with elevations ranging from 3,000 to 4,500 meters (10,000 to 15,000 feet). This plateau is home to Lake Titicaca which straddles both Bolivia and Peru’s borders. The Chaco region lies south of the Altiplano and consists mainly of lowlands with some hills reaching up to 800 meters (2,600 feet). This region has some sparsely populated forests as well as many rivers such as Rio MamorĂ© which flows into Brazil. Lastly there are two large river basins located in eastern Bolivia; these are Beni River Basin located near Riberalta and Madre de Dios River Basin near Puerto Maldonado in Peru. These rivers are important for transportation links between Bolivia’s cities as well as for providing water for agricultural activities in their surrounding areas.
