According to wholevehicles, Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa, bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. The Kalahari Desert covers much of Botswana. It is one of the driest countries in Africa, with an average annual rainfall of just 14 inches (360mm). The Okavango Delta is a large inland delta located in the northwest corner of Botswana. It is made up of several channels and lagoons that are fed by seasonal flooding from rivers originating in Angola. The delta is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes and many species of birds. The Makgadikgadi Pans are a series of large salt flats located in northern Botswana near the border with Namibia. These pans were once part of an ancient lake that has since dried up due to climate change over thousands of years. During dry season these pans become vast salt flats covered with white crusts that shimmer in the sunlight. They are home to one of the largest zebra migrations on Earth along with other species such as springbok antelope, wildebeest and lions. To the east lies Chobe National Park which is known for its large herds of elephants as well as its variety of bird life including pelicans, kingfishers, fish eagles and storks. Chobe River forms part of Botswana’s northern border with Namibia and is an important water source for wildlife living within this area. In terms of climate, Botswana has a subtropical climate characterized by hot summers (October – March) followed by mild winters (April – September). Rainfall varies significantly between different parts of the country but generally it does not exceed 20 inches (508mm) annually except for some areas near the Okavango Delta which receive more rain due to their proximity to Angola’s wetter climate zones.
