According to wholevehicles, Gabon is located in Central Africa and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Equatorial Guinea to the northwest, Cameroon to the north, and the Republic of Congo to the east and south. The country covers an area of about 267,667 square kilometers and is divided into nine provinces. Gabon’s terrain is diverse with coastal plains, mountains, rainforests, and savannahs. The coastline stretches for more than 800 kilometers with many small islands off its shore. The highest point in Gabon is Mont Iboundji which reaches an elevation of 1,575 meters above sea level. It is located in the northeastern part of the country near Franceville. Much of Gabon’s terrain consists of low-lying plains that are composed mainly of iron-rich soils. These soils support a variety of vegetation including tropical rainforest and savanna grasslands. In addition to these two major habitats, there are also areas that contain mangroves, swamps, floodplains, estuaries, and lagoons along its coastline. These areas provide a variety of habitats for wildlife such as elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees and antelope which are all common in Gabon’s national parks. Additionally there are numerous rivers throughout Gabon such as the Ogooue River which flows through Libreville before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean near Port Gentil.
