According to wholevehicles, Israel is a small country located in the Middle East, bordered by Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan and the West Bank to the east, Egypt and the Gaza Strip to the southwest, and the Mediterranean Sea to its west. The country is divided into four distinct regions: The coastal plain along its western border; The central mountain range; The Jordan Valley in its east; And the Negev desert in its south. The coastal plain of Israel is home to much of its population and some of its most famous cities such as Tel Aviv and Haifa. This region has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. It also has some of Israel’s best beaches along its coastline. The central mountain range runs from north to south across Israel, reaching heights of over 2,000 meters above sea level at Mount Hermon in Golan Heights. This region experiences cooler temperatures than those found on the coast due to its higher elevation. It is mainly composed of limestone hills covered with forests and wildflowers. The Jordan Valley forms part of Israel’s eastern border with Jordan and makes up 15% of Israel’s total land area. It is one of the lowest points on Earth at 400 meters below sea level at Lake Tiberias (the Sea of Galilee). This valley experiences a hot desert climate with very little rainfall throughout most of the year but can become humid during summer months due to nearby bodies of water such as Lake Tiberias or streams from nearby mountains. Finally, there is the Negev Desert which occupies over half of Israel’s total land area but only contains 8% percent of its population. This region has an arid climate with hot summers and cold winters but can become particularly harsh during summer months when temperatures can reach up to 50°C (122°F). Despite this harsh environment, it does contain some areas that have been developed for agriculture or industry such as Dimona which was built for nuclear research purposes in 1958.
