According to wholevehicles, Kazakhstan is the world’s largest landlocked country, located in Central Asia and bordered by Russia to the north, China to the east, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to the south, and Turkmenistan and the Caspian Sea to the west. It is a vast country with an area of 2.7 million square kilometers, making it the ninth-largest country in the world. The terrain of Kazakhstan is quite varied, ranging from flat plains in the northern part of the country to rolling hills and mountains in the south. The highest point in Kazakhstan is Khan Tengri Peak at 6995 meters (22,950 ft) above sea level. Kazakhstan has a wide range of climates due to its large size from subtropical in its southern regions near Turkmenistan to cold continental climate in its northern regions near Russia. The majority of Kazakhstan experiences a dry continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. In some areas like Almaty and Astana temperatures drop below freezing for several months during wintertime. Kazakhstan also has some desert areas such as Betpak-Dala desert located between Aral Sea Basin and Caspian Sea Basin which experiences extreme temperatures both during summer and wintertime. Kazakhstan is home to many rivers including Syr Darya (Jaxartes), Ural River, Emba River (Zhayyq), Irtysh River (Ertis), Ili River (Yili) as well as numerous lakes such as Balkhash Lake, Alakol Lake, Tengiz Lake among others. Most of Kazakhstan’s rivers are tributaries that flow into either Caspian Sea or Aral Sea basins depending on their location within Kazakhstan’s borders.
