The highest point in Latvia is Gaizinkalns, located at 312 meters (1,024 feet) above sea level. More than 50 percent of Latvia’s land area consists of forests and woodlands. There are more than 2,000 rivers in Latvia and more than 3,000 lakes. The largest river is the Daugava River which flows through Riga into the Gulf of Riga on the Baltic Sea. Other major rivers include Lielupe and Gauja Rivers flowing into the Gulf of Riga and Venta River flowing into the Baltic Sea.
