Peninsular Malaysia is located between Thailand and Singapore, while East Malaysia is located on the island of Borneo in the South China Sea. The capital city of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur, which lies in the western region of Peninsular Malaysia. The landscape in Peninsular Malaysia is predominantly mountainous with some lowland plains. The highest peak in this region is Mount Korbu at 2183 m. There are also several rivers running through this region including the Pahang River, Perak River and Kelantan River. In East Malaysia, the terrain consists mostly of hilly forests with some mountainous areas as well as several large coastal plains along the South China Sea coastline.
