According to wholevehicles, Mauritania is located in the western region of Africa and is bordered by Western Sahara to the north, Algeria and Mali to the east, and Senegal to the south. It is also situated on the Atlantic coast. Mauritania has a total land area of 1,030,700 square kilometers making it one of the larger countries in Africa. The terrain of Mauritania is mostly desert plains and sand dunes with a few areas of savanna grassland in its southernmost regions. The country’s highest point is Kediet Ijill which rises to 915 meters above sea level. The climate in Mauritania ranges from hot and dry in its northern region to semi-arid and tropical in its south. Most of the country receives very little rainfall with an average annual precipitation ranging from 100mm to 200mm. Despite this, there are some permanent rivers that flow through Mauritania including the Senegal River which forms part of its border with Senegal as well as several tributaries such as Oued Saguiat el Hamra, Oued Noun, Oued Draa and Oued Idaouane. These rivers provide an important source of water for local communities as well as irrigation for agricultural areas along their banks. Additionally, Mauritania has several large freshwater lakes such as Lake Guermessa and Lake Magui which are home to a variety of fish species including tilapia and catfish.
