According to wholevehicles, New Zealand is a country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island, as well as Stewart Island, hundreds of coastal islands, and small outlying islands. The North Island is the larger of the two main islands and has a population of approximately 3.5 million people. It is mostly composed of rolling hills and mountains with large areas of flat land in the central and northern regions. The South Island is much more mountainous than its northern counterpart with numerous peaks over 3,000 meters above sea level. Its highest peak, Aoraki/Mount Cook stands at an impressive 3,724 meters high. The climate in New Zealand varies greatly from region to region due to its long coastline and distance from other landmasses. In general though it has a temperate maritime climate with warm summers and mild winters throughout most areas apart from alpine regions which experience colder temperatures all year round. The north of the North Island tends to be warmer than the south while the West Coast of both islands experiences higher rainfall than elsewhere due to its location on the prevailing westerly winds path. New Zealand also experiences regular earthquakes due to its position on an active fault line which runs through both main islands as well as frequent volcanic activity on some parts of both islands due to their proximity to several active volcanoes.
