According to wholevehicles, Niger is a landlocked country located in West Africa. It is bordered by Algeria to the north, Libya to the northeast, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, and Burkina Faso and Mali to the west. It is one of the largest countries in Africa, with an area of 1.267 million square kilometers (489,190 square miles). The terrain of Niger is mostly desert plains and sand dunes that cover most of its northern half. The southern regions are characterized by savanna grasslands with trees scattered throughout. The highest point in Niger is Mont Idoukal-n-Taghès at 1,944 meters (6,377 feet), located on its eastern border with Chad. The River Niger runs through the western part of the country from north to south and empties into Lake Chad in the southeastern corner of Niger. Other major rivers include Tamesna, Dallol Bosso, Komadougou Yobe, and Goulbi Kebbi. The climate in Niger varies from semi-arid in its northern regions to tropical in its southern regions; temperatures can reach up to 50°C (122°F) during summer months. The population of Niger consists mainly of Hausa people who live primarily in the southern region along with other ethnic groups such as Fulani, Tuareg, Kanuri, Zarma-Songhai and Arab populations living mostly around urban areas such as Niamey or Agadez. Islam is widely practiced throughout most parts of Niger while Christianity remains a minority religion concentrated mainly around urban centers. The official language spoken throughout most parts of Niger is French while Hausa remains widely spoken among many other local languages such as Djerma and Tamasheq. Niger has a variety of natural resources including uranium ore which accounts for more than one fourths of export earnings followed by oil which contributes another fifth portion making it one of Africa’s largest producers; other minerals found include coal, iron ore lead and zinc; agricultural products include millet sorghum peanuts cotton cowpeas onions dates tamarind fruits vegetables cattle hides skins fish gum arabic shea butter etc; livestock includes goats sheep camels cattle horses donkeys etc; there are also large deposits of petroleum natural gas gold limestone marble tin phosphates salt kaolin clay gypsum feldspar talc mica antimony bauxite clays graphite etc which are all potential sources for economic development if properly exploited.
