According to wholevehicles, Oman is located in the Middle East on the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the west and Yemen to the southwest. The entire country is surrounded by water, with the Arabian Sea to its north and east, and the Gulf of Oman to its south. The country has a total area of 309,500 square kilometers (119,500 square miles). The landscape of Oman is dominated by rugged mountains and deep valleys. The country’s highest peak, Jabal Shams, rises over 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) above sea level. In contrast to its mountainous terrain are large stretches of desert plains in the north and south. These include areas such as Rub al Khali (the Empty Quarter), which is one of the largest sand deserts in the world. Oman also boasts a long coastline with numerous beaches along its shores. Its coasts are dotted with numerous rocky outcrops that make for great snorkeling and diving sites. Between these outcrops are sheltered bays that provide ideal locations for fishing boats and other vessels seeking shelter from strong winds or storms at sea. The interior of Oman comprises a variety of landscapes ranging from arid desert oases to lush green valleys full of date palms and fruit trees. There are also extensive areas covered by wadis—dry riverbeds that fill up during seasonal rains—and mountain ranges dotted with small villages where traditional Bedouin lifestyles still exist today. Oman’s climate varies significantly between its coastal regions and interior regions due to altitude differences between them; while coastal areas experience hot summers and mild winters, temperatures can drop significantly in some mountain valleys during winter months when snowfall can be seen at higher elevations. Rainfall is sparse throughout most parts of Oman but some areas receive more rainfall than others during winter months due to their proximity to mountains which act as natural rain-catchers for their surroundings.
