According to wholevehicles, Portugal is a country located in southwestern Europe, on the Iberian Peninsula. It shares its borders with Spain to the north and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south and west. The country has a total area of 92,090 square kilometers, making it one of the smallest countries in Europe. Portugal also has an extensive coastline of 1,793 kilometers stretching along the Atlantic Ocean. The landscape of Portugal is quite diverse due to its varied geography. Inland areas are mountainous with plateaus and valleys in between them. The highest point in Portugal is located in Serra da Estrela mountain range which stands at 1993 meters above sea level. Along the coast, there are vast stretches of sandy beaches that extend for hundreds of kilometers making it popular among tourists looking for a beach holiday destination. In terms of climate, Portugal experiences a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures all year round due to its proximity to the ocean as well as its location on the Iberian Peninsula which protect it from extreme temperatures from other parts of Europe. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout most parts of Portugal except for some areas in Alentejo where rainfall can be scarce during summers. Temperatures can vary significantly depending on altitude with higher altitudes experiencing cooler temperatures than lower ones such as those near the coast.
