According to wholevehicles, Senegal is located in West Africa, bordered by Mauritania, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea. It is a coastal country with a total coastline of 531 km (330 mi), and its capital city is Dakar. Senegal’s terrain is mainly lowland plains in the north and south, and a hilly region in the southeast. The highest point of Senegal is an unnamed hill at 581 m (1,906 ft). There are four main rivers that flow through Senegal: the Sénégal River, Saloum River, Gambia River and Casamance River. The Sénégal River is the largest river in the country and forms part of the border between Mauritania and Senegal for about 800 km (497 mi). The climate of Senegal varies from tropical to arid depending on the region. The northern regions have semi-arid conditions while the southern regions have tropical climates with dry winters and hot summers. Rainfall also varies greatly between different regions; most areas receive between 600 – 1100 mm (23 – 43 inches) annually. The rainy season generally lasts from June to October. Temperatures are generally warm throughout the year with average highs ranging from 25 – 32 °C (77 – 90 °F) depending on location. Senegal has an abundance of natural resources including phosphate deposits, iron ore reserves and gold deposits; however it has not yet been able to develop these resources due to lack of infrastructure investment. Other important natural resources include fish stocks offshore as well as timber reserves in its forests which cover around 20% of its land area. Agriculture is also an important industry here; millet, sorghum, rice, maize and peanuts are all grown here for domestic consumption as well as export markets in Europe and North America.
