According to wholevehicles, Solomon Islands is an archipelago of nine provinces located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Papua New Guinea. The islands are divided into two main geographical areas—the larger, more populated western islands, and the smaller eastern islands. All provinces have a tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius (75 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit). The terrain is mostly mountainous and hilly, and covered with dense rainforests. The largest island in the archipelago is Guadalcanal which is home to the capital city Honiara. This island has large mountains that reach up to 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) in elevation and are surrounded by coral reefs. Other major islands include Malaita, New Georgia, Isabel, Choiseul and Santa Isabel. These islands have steep mountains as well as many rivers and streams that flow down from them into the sea. The Solomon Islands also includes several smaller atolls such as Makira Atoll or Bellona Atoll which are made up of coral reefs surrounding a lagoon or lake. These atolls provide excellent fishing grounds for local fishermen who use traditional methods such as hand-line fishing and spearfishing for their catch. The waters around the Solomon Islands are incredibly diverse with over 1,000 species of fish living in their coral reefs including manta rays, sea turtles and sharks. There are also about 230 species of birds living on the islands such as parrots, kingfishers and cuckoos which make it a great destination for bird watching enthusiasts too!
