Turkish Riviera Weather and Climate

General and geographic location

The Turkish Riviera is a popular holiday region in the south of Turkey and stretches over 230 kilometers along the Mediterranean coast.

At the foot of the imposing Taurus Mountains, the sun-drenched Turkish Riviera (with over 3000 hours of sunshine a year) has an extremely mild climate. The area runs from Kemer to Cape Anamur and combines some of the most beautiful beaches and seaside resorts in Turkey.

A little north of Kemer is Antalya, the capital of the region, which also houses the international airport. The holiday resorts of Belek, Side, Beldibi, Manavgat and Alanya line up in an easterly direction like a pearl necklace.

Surrounded by scenic beauty and a unique natural backdrop, high-class hotel resorts are mostly located directly on the long beaches and offer direct access to the turquoise shimmering bays of the Turkish Riviera.

Thanks to a large number of well-preserved treasures from antiquity, the region is equally popular with beach holidaymakers and those interested in culture. Antalya is about 2300 kilometers as the crow flies from Frankfurt am Main, the flight time is about 3:25 hours on a direct route.

Climate on the Turkish Riviera

The Turkish Riviera around the resorts of Side, Belek or Alanya has a very mild, subtropical climate. This is characterized by hot summer months and very mild winters. Side and the places in the center of the Turkish south coast are usually a little warmer than Alanya on the eastern and Antalya on the western flank.

By May at the latest, the thermometer will reach values above 25 degrees per day and break through temperatures of 30 ° C several times during the month. From June to September there are constant average values above 30 degrees, on particularly hot days up to 40 degrees in midsummer are quite possible.

The summer on the Turkish Riviera is extremely dry, there is almost no rain at all. From October it will be much more humid, in winter the daytime temperatures remain mild at 15 to 17 degrees. However, there are sometimes heavy showers, especially in December, January and February.

When to go to the Turkish Riviera

The Turkish south coast has long since become a popular year-round destination, as many resorts also offer wellness offers, indoor pools and very affordable prices in winter. On most winter days, the Mediterranean Sea is around 18 degrees warmer than the air and theoretically still suitable for bathing.

However, we recommend the period from early May to mid-October as the best travel time for the Turkish Riviera. Real summer weather with high temperatures and 11 to 12 hours of sunshine a day beckons here. If you want to avoid the great heat, you will find a good compromise in the marginal months of May and October.
